On December 10, 1971, Nolan Ryan was traded to the California Angels along with pitcher Don Rose, catcher Francisco Estrada and outfielder Leroy Stanton for shortstop Jim Fregosi (who would later manage Ryan in Anaheim). Fregosi had been an All-Star in six of seven seasons between 1964 and 1970, played fewer than 150 games for the Mets. The deal remains controversial, and has been cited as one of the worst in Mets history. Inside the left front tail is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's size "44" tag with wash instructions. In the collar is a strip tag that reads "43 72 2" in blue stitch. Across the front is "Mets". Below that and on the back is the player number "2." All lettering and numbering is done in blue on orange tackle twill. The “2” on back has been restored. On the left sleeve is the "Mets" team logo patch. Inside the waistband of the pants is the "Rawlings" manufacturer's size "34" tag with wash instructions. Attached is the “SET #8P 1972” flag tag. Next to this is a strip tag that reads "34 24 72" in blue stitch. The uniform shows game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind.
