Ruel spent a decade (1935-45) as a coach with the White Sox, before an unprecedented promotion after the '45 campaign, when he became an assistant to Commissioner of Baseball Happy Chandler. In the back collar is the “Goldsmith” manufacturers tag. Above is “Harold Ruel” in red chain stitch on a felt strip tag. On the left tail is “40 ’44 1” embroidered, representing the size, year, and set. Across the front is “CHICAGO” in blue on red felt. On back is the coach’s number “38” in the same felt. Patch has been removed from the left sleeve. In the back waistband of the pants is “Harold Ruel” in red chain stitch on a felt strip tag. Below is “34 1 ’44” embroidered, representing the size, set, and year. There are no other manufacturers tags. A pair of matching thick socks are included. The uniform shows wear and besides what is mentioned appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
