Affectionately known to Philadelphia fans as “Lefty”, Steve Carlton was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1994. He played the bulk of his career as a Philly, receiving the greatest acclaim for his time there, during which he won four Cy Young Awards. Carlton has the second-most lifetime strikeouts of any left-handed pitcher (4th overall), and the second-most lifetime wins of any left-handed pitcher (11th overall). He was the first pitcher to win four Cy Young Awards in a career. This Rawlings Pro Model HT-76 shows great game-use and appears to have had all, if not most of Lefty’s 23 wins from the 1977 season in it. It is a left handed glove that has on the right pinkie Carlton’s very faded “32” written in by the equipment manager. It is beautifully signed on the right thumb “Sincerely Steve Carlton 23 Wins” in green ballpoint pen, with the signature rating a 9. Any Carlton glove is exceedingly rare and this one is important as well, as it was given by Steve to a former Major League baseball player, who provides a letter here. Also accompanied by a LOAs from JSA and Denny Eskin.
