On the strength of a brilliant Cy Young campaign by rookie screwballer Fernando Valenzuela, the Dodgers handed the Yankees the only four game sweep defeat in their World Series history. Despite a midsummer players strike which shortened the 1981 season, nothing could dampen the excitement of a postseason Yankee bashing for Dodger fans, who collected their fifth franchise World Championship in 1981. Offered here is a 12” tall World Series trophy commemorating that win, which features a gold crown atop an arc centerpiece over a silver baseball, surrounded by 26 gold flags with black lettering on the flag poles, one for each MLB team. The two World Series teams’ press pins (Yankees and Dodgers) are mounted on small poles on the seven inch diameter black base, in front of the silver baseball. The surrounding gold band reads “WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS LOS ANGELES DODGERS 1981”. In overall EX condition with scuffing on top of the black base.
