In 1984, the San Diego Padres made their first ever World Series appearance in a match up that pitted them against the eventual World Champion Detroit Tigers. Interestingly, this Fall Classic represented the first official duty of newly elected MLB commissioner Peter Ueberroth, who until that point in the season had been pre-occupied as the chairman of the 1984 Summer Olympics. Standing 12” tall at its highest point, this World Series trophy features a gold crown atop an arc centerpiece over a silver baseball, surrounded by 26 gold flags with black lettering on stanchions, one for each MLB team. The two World Series teams’ press pins (Tigers and Padres) are mounted on small poles on the seven inch diameter black base, in front of the silver baseball. The surrounding gold band reads “WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS DETROIT TIGERS 1984”. In overall EXMT condition with light wear.
