In 1978, the storied USC Trojans football program was led by Heisman Trophy winner Charles White, as well as future Heisman Trophy winner Marcus Allen, to their 8th National Championship. A 17-10 Rose Bowl victory over Big Ten rival Michigan solidified the Championship, which was shared with co-Champion Alabama. Ironically, the Trojans had actually beaten the Crimson Tide earlier in the season, which led some to claim that the Trojans should have received the Championship outright. On the top of this 10K yellow gold size 11-1/4 to 11-1/2 ring is the “USC” logo with 33 inlaid ruby colored stones. Surrounding the logo on top and bottom is a “NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP” casting. On the left side panel of the ring are castings of the player name “MACDONALD” as well as “ROSE BOWL 79” and an image of a football helmet. On the opposite panel are castings of the scores in four of the season’s top wins over UCLA, Notre Dame, Alabama, and Michigan, underneath which is a “USC” football image. Vertical castings of “1978” and “Trojans” flank the scores on either side. Inside this 38 gram (1.1 ounce) ring on the left side is engraved the manufacturer’s name “JOSTENS” along with “10K”. The ring is in NRMT overall condition and comes in a black velour box.
