The 1997 Nebraska Cornhuskers went a perfect 13-0. They received a number one ranking by the Coaches Poll following their end of season Orange Bowl victory over #3 Tennessee, but were forced to split the National Championship with Michigan, which was awarded the number one spot by the AP Poll after their Rose Bowl victory. The 1997 campaign capped an impressive three year run for the Cornhuskers, during which time they went 49-2. It also was the final season in the storied 24 year head coaching career of Tom Osborne. This 1997 National Championship ring, which was the property of 1997 All-Big 12 First Team nominee Eric Anderson, commemorates all three of those historic accomplishments. On the top of this 34 gram (1.2 ounce) 10K gold size 9 to 9-1/2 player’s ring is a raised number “1”, which is studded with seven synthetic diamonds and sits over a vertical ruby red translucent football. “NATIONAL CHAMPIONS” and “1997” castings surround this football. On the left panel are castings of player name “ANDERSON” as well as an image of the Sears Orange Bowl trophy with “13-0” on it, and “49-2” with a “1994-1997” banner under that. On the right panel is an artistic casting of head coach Tom Osborne, with the heading “1973-1997” on top and an engraving of his all-time record of “255” wins, “49” losses and “3” ties under that. Inside is the ring is a script engraving of the player name “Anderson” and opposite that is engraved the manufacturer’s name “BALFOUR” with “10K”. The ring is in overall NRMT condition and comes in a black velour box.
