Earl Campbell, a 5-11, 232-pound ball-carrying dynamo from the University of Texas, joined the Houston Oilers as the first player taken in the 1978 National Football League Draft. The first player to earn All-Southwest Conference honors four years, Campbell was a consensus All-America and the Heisman Trophy winner in 1977. On the left front tail is the “Sand-Knit” manufacturers size 48 tag with wash instructions. Above is the “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Houston Oilers” tag. Next to these “1981” is written in black marker by the equipment manager. On the front, back, and each sleeve is the player number “34” in white on red screen print. Across the back is the player name “CAMPBELL” in white vinyl lettering on a light blue name plate. Custom underarm gussets with material added. The jersey shows moderate game-use with multiple team repairs and besides the custom underarms appears to have no other alterations of any kind.
