In 1979 Dennis Johnson led the Seattle Supersonics to their first and only NBA Championship. The Supersonics won the series four games to one. During the series, Johnson averaged almost 23 points per game, and scored 32 in a game 4 overtime victory. For his heroics, he was named the 1979 NBA World Championship Series Most Valuable Player. This lot features the Finals MVP trophy that was awarded to Johnson. The trophy itself is about 2 feet tall. It sits on a black pedestal, with a silver metal basketball on top. The pedestal has a metal plaque on the front of it which reads “NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION AND SPORTS MAGAZINE’S MOST VALUABLE PLAYER AWARD” “1979 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES DENNIS JOHNSON SEATTLE SUPERSONICS”. The metal basketball part of the award has been slightly bent at the base and there is discoloration to the silver due to slight oxidation. There is also a manufacturer’s tag on the bottom that reads “AWARDS BY BALFOUR”. This award comes with a LOA from the Johnson family.
