The 1971-1972 NBA Champion LA Lakers were truly a team for the record books, setting a then best regular season mark of 69 wins in addition to completing a remarkable 33 game winning streak, which still stands as the longest winning streak in any major American professional team sport. The season was also a magical one for fan favorite Jerry West, who won his only NBA Championship that year and collected the All-Star Game MVP award for sinking a game wining buzzer beater on his home court at the Los Angeles Forum. Perhaps more important, the Lakers’ 4 games to 1 victory over the New York Knicks served to vindicate Wilt Chamberlain, whose trade to LA in 1968 had all but gutted the Laker back court. This LA Lakers L22 Official Size and Weight basketball features the crisp signatures of all 11 players on the Championship team. (Elgin Baylor, who retired nine games into the season, does not appear on the ball.) Highlights include Jerry West, a big, bold Pat Riley, and Wilt Chamberlain, who signed his own panel below the Lakers insignia. The signatures rate an average of 9 and they come with a LOA from JSA and an additional LOA. The ball exhibits a slight crack, which seems repairable, causing it to lose some air.
