Five-time NBA champion Earvin “Magic” Johnson is often credited with having brought excitement back to the NBA through his decade long rivalry with Larry Bird. Johnson locked horns with Bird early in his basketball career, swiping the 1979 NCAA Championship from under Larry’s nose in the most watched college basketball game ever. His 1980 rookie season in the NBA would bring more championship success, when he handed Los Angeles its first title in the new decade. With an injured Abdul-Jabbar on the bench, Magic’s dominating 42 point performance in the Lakers’ clinching Game 6 win over the 76ers secured him the first of three career NBA Finals MVP nods. Johnson would go on to help the Lakers to four more championships in the 1980s, claiming the Finals MVP in three of his five championship campaigns. In 12 years in the league, Magic would make it to the All-Star Game 12 times. He wore this warm-up jacket and pants during the 1990-1991 season, his final one in the NBA. Inside the back collar is the “Champion” manufacturer’s size 42 tag with wash instructions. Adjacent is the "Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Los Angeles Lakers" tag. There are three additional embroidered strip tags which read "2" L.B.", "90" and a blank strip tag. On the left breast is the Lakers team embroidered logo patch. Across the back is player name “JOHNSON” in yellow on white tackle twill. On the upper right breast is the official “NBA” embroidered logo. On the left sleeve is the USA flag patch for Desert Storm, added in the latter part of the season. On the inside back waistband of the pants is the "Champion" manufacturer’s size 34 tag with wash instructions. Above this is the “Designed & Tailored Exclusively for Los Angeles Lakers” tag. Adjacent to that are four additional embroidered manufacturers’ strip tags with "90," "38 IN," and "1” HR” on them and a blank tag. The jacket and pants show wear and appear to have no alterations of any kind. Arguably the finest Magic warm-up extant.
