"The Wizard" played shortstop a NL record 2,511 career games at the position. He won the NL Gold Glove Award for play at shortstop for 13 consecutive seasons. A 15-time All-Star, he accumulated 2,460 hits during his career, and won the NL Silver Slugger Award as the best-hitting shortstop in 1987. He was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2002. Inside the left front tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “38”. Attached is a flag tag with “SET 1 1982”. Across the front is “Cardinals” embroidered in red stitch with a blue border. Above is the “Cardinals on a bat”. Player number “1” appears on both the front and back. Player name “O. SMITH” appears across the back. All these numbers and letters are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. On the left sleeve is a black armband worn in memory of former coach, player and manager Ken Boyer which has been restored. Ozzie has signed the front of the shirt in black marker rating a 9. The jersey shows good game-use with sweat and dirt staining and besides the armband restoration, appears to have no alterations of any kind. There is spray adhesive on back from framing.
