Sandy Koufax's career peaked with a run of six outstanding seasons from 1961 to 1966. He was named the National League's MVP in 1963. He also won the 1963, 1965, and 1966 Cy Young Awards by unanimous votes, making him the first 3-time Cy Young winner in baseball history. In each of his Cy Young seasons, Koufax won the pitcher's Triple Crown by leading the NL in wins, strikeouts, and ERA. Koufax's totals would also have led the American League in those seasons. Koufax was the first major leaguer to pitch four no-hitters (including the eighth perfect game in baseball history). Retiring at the peak of his career, he became, at age 36 and 20 days, the youngest player ever elected to the Hall of Fame. Koufax is also remembered as one of the outstanding Jewish athletes in American sports. This jersey was worn by Koufax during his Cy Young Award winning season of 1966, in which he went 27-9 with a career-best 1.73 ERA, striking out 317 in 323 innings before leaving baseball on the top of his game. On the left front tail of this grey flannel road jersey is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with size “44”. Embroidered directly underneath in navy blue chain stitch is “Koufax” and “66” indicating player name and jersey year, respectively. Below is a wash instructions label with attached flag tag “SET 1 1966”. Across the front is “Los Angeles” done in blue felt. Player number “32” appears on front in red felt and on back in blue felt. Koufax has signed the right breast in black marker adding the inscription “To Bob Best Wishes” rating an 8. The jersey shows good game-use and appears to have no alterations of any kind. It is in immaculate, all original condition. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA for the signature.
