Originally attaining a public profile in sports as a running back, Simpson was the AFL's Buffalo Bills' first overall pick in the 1969 Common Draft, and the first professional football player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a season, a mark he set during the 1973 season. He also holds the record for the single season yards-per-game average which stands at 143.1 ypg. Simpson was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985. On the left front tail is the “Sand-Knit” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “X-LARGE”. Directly above is the “Sand-Knit Buffalo Bills Exclusive” tag. Player number “32” appears on the front, back and on both sleeves in painted on white numbers with a red border. Player name “SIMPSON” appears across the back in white tackle twill on a blue nameplate which has been restored but not by the team. It appears to have been done by a collector in later years. The jersey shows light game-use and other than what is mentioned appears to have no further alterations of any kind.
