After the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Tillman was inspired to give up his promising football career to enlist in the Army in defense of his country as an Army Airborne-Ranger. This decision would result in his making the ultimate sacrifice when he was killed in action by friendly fire in Afghanistan in 2004 at the tender age of 27. Here is a rare Tillman signature on the second page of a beautiful, leather bound book entitled “Maroon and Gold-A History of Sun Devil Athletics” (2001). This is a numbered copy (#77) of only 250 books, signed by Tillman and ten other famous Sun Devils (Herman Frazier, Bruce Snyder, Frank Kush, Rob Evans, Ned Wulk, Baldy Castillo, Pat Murphy, Bill Kajikawa, Bob Winkles, and Dirk Koetter), plus the author (Bob Eger) and is accompanied by a certificate from the publisher attesting to this limited signed edition. Tillman’s name is clean and bold and could easily be removed to display completely by himself. Tillman’s autograph will always be rare and highly sought after. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA.
