Ernie Barnes, now deceased, is often regarded as the father of the Neo-Mannerist style. Barnes is widely known as one of this country's foremost figurative painters and the leading African-American artist of his time. Throughout the Good Times television series most of the paintings created by the character J.J. are works by Ernie Barnes. This is one of Barnes’ earlier pieces from the 60s when he was still playing for the AFL's San Diego Chargers. The player in the painting is his teammate, #77 Ernie Ladd. It is inscribed “Ernie Barnes” in the bottom right hand corner. Matted and framed beautifully to measure 18” x 23”.
