When the going got tough the San Francisco 49ers turned to Joe Montana. As quarterback Montana led his team to 31 fourth-quarter come-from-behind wins earning him the nickname The Comeback Kid. During his 14 years with the 49ers he directed them to four Super Bowl wins and won three SB MVP awards for himself. Joe Cool was selected to eight Pro Bowls a record for quarterbacks at the time and ended his career with the 49ers and Kansas City Chiefs with 3409 completions 40551 yards and 273 touchdowns. Steve Young entered the NFL through the 1984 supplemental draft and in 1987 the talented quarterback was traded to the 49ers where he served as the backup to Joe Montana. After seeing limited action in his first four seasons Young stepped into the starting role in 1991 after Montana suffered an injury. His finest season came in 1994 when he posted a then-record 112.8 passer rating by completing 324 of 461 passes for 3969 yards and 35 TDs. One of the most accurate passers in league history Young was named All-Pro in 1992 1993 1994 and 1998 was a two-time league MVP and played in seven Pro Bowls. Additionally he won three Super Bowls earning SB XXIX MVP honors and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. Jerry Rice for almost 20 years was a football staple. As wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders Rice owns virtually every receiving record including most points and most TDs.
