Rare 1912 glass lantern slide pictures the sluggers from the World Championship Boston Red Sox, including league MVP, Tris Speaker. The 4” x 3” slide produced by Underwood & Underwood pictures five batsmen and is captioned on the bottom portion of the image, “Mighty Hitters of the Boston ‘Red Sox.’ Left to right—Stahl, Hooper, Speaker, Krug, Wagner, Yerkes.” Behind center fielder Tris Speaker and pitcher Smokey Joe Wood, the Red Sox led the league in runs scored and fewest runs allowed, finishing with a league leading record of 105 wins and 47 losses. In the 1912 World Series, the Red Sox went on to defeat the NY Giants in 8 games to win the Worlds Championship. Underwood & Underwood, founded in 1881 was the largest producer of Stereoviews in the world and in the 1920’s also became a prime news photographic agency.
