Collection of four important negatives and eleven original contact photos, each captured at Yankee Stadium in 1957. Four of the five negatives capture that season’s American League MVP, Mickey Mantle, in action at the plate. The Sports Illustrated photographers accompanying contact photos (8/23/57 submittal date on reverse) include those four images of Mantle, along with additional images that include three of Mantle’s clothes-filled locker as it looked in ’57. Additional photos include Casey Stengel in mound conference with Yankee newcomer Bobby Shantz, #30, Mickey Mantle throwing ball back to infielder Tony Kubek with 5 Yankee monuments (Huggins, Ruth, Gehrig, Ruppert & Barrow) in dead center as a wonderful backdrop. 11 images total, incl. 5 that are on negatives (4 Mickey Mantle at plate, 1 rookie Milt Pappas).
