John Hannah played tackle and guard for the University of Alabama under Coach Paul "Bear" Bryant from 1970 until 1972. He earned All American honors twice, in 1971 and then was a Consensus All American his senior year in 1972. During his tenure, Hannah was part of an SEC championship-winning team. He was named to the University of Alabama All-Century Team and also to the Alabama 1970s All-Decade team. Hannah was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1999. Bryant would later say that Hannah was the greatest lineman he ever coached. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1991. On the left front tail of this nylon durene is the size “46” tag. There are no manufacturer’s tags present. Player number “73” appears on the front, back and on both sleeves in red tackle twill. There are many team repairs throughout the shirt. Across the bottom, surrounding the entire shirt are the remnants of white adhesive tape as Hannah secured the jersey tightly to his body with tape. The jersey was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows outstanding use. Other than what is mentioned, there appear to be no further alterations of any kind. Originally obtained from the former Alabama equipment manager along with a similar era Pat Sullivan Auburn gamer.
