Artis Gilmore began his professional career with the Kentucky Colonels of the ABA for the 1971-72 season. He was so immediately dominant that he earned the rare distinction of being selected both the Rookie of the Year award and the league MVP award for his first season. The capstone of his time in the ABA was leading the 1974-75 Kentucky Colonels to the 1975 ABA championship and being named the ABA Playoffs Most Valuable Player. Hall of Fame, Class of 2011. We were told by our consignor that this jersey was worn in the 1975 ABA Finals. On the right front tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with wash instructions and jersey size “42”. Attached is a fraying flag tag with “6” Longer”. Across the front is “Colonels”. Player number “53” appears on both the front and back. Player name “Gilmore” appears on back. All numbers and letters are done in blue on red tackle twill. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows outstanding use.
