Nicknamed "The Wizard" for his defensive brilliance, Ozzie Smith set major league records for career assists (8,375) and double plays (1,590) by a shortstop as well as the NL record with 2,511 career games at the position; Smith won the NL Gold Glove Award for play at shortstop for 13 consecutive seasons. A 15-time All-Star, he accumulated 2,460 hits and was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility in 2002. Inside the left front tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with jersey size “40”. Attached is a flag tag with “SET 1 1982”. Across the front is the “Cardinals on a Bat” logo embroidered in red, navy blue and yellow chain stitch. Player number “1” appears on both the front and back. Player name “O. SMITH” appears across the back. All numbers and letters are done in red on navy blue tackle twill. There is a Ken Boyer black memorial armband on the left sleeve which has been restored. Smith has signed the front in black marker adding the inscription “1982 World Champions” rating an 8. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows appropriate use. Other than what is mentioned, there appear to be no further alterations of any kind.
