In 1995, after 12 seasons with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Orel Hershiser signed as a free agent with the Cleveland Indians. Cleveland won a league-best 100 regular season games that season, 16 of which were games in which Hershiser started. Orel’s 16-6 record was the best on the team and the Indians would cruise into the postseason with a 30-game lead in the AL Central. Cleveland made quick work of the Boston Red Sox in the AL Division Series, sweeping the series in three games including a gem of a game by Hershiser in which he struck out seven and allowed only three hits in 7-1/3 innings. Hershiser continued his postseason dominance in the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners; he won two games in the series, posting an outstanding 1.29 ERA and averaging 9.6 strikeouts per nine innings. His performance earned him MVP honors for the ALCS and he is the only player to win the LCS Most Valuable Player Award in both leagues. Framed to measure 18” x 18”, this silver plate award was presented to Orel Hershiser after being selected at the MVP of the 1995 AL Championship Series. The plate measures 13-3/4” across. The engraving features the American League logo at the top, below it reads “LELAND S. MACPHAIL, JR. AWARD - AMERICAN LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - OREL HERSHISER - CLEVELAND INDIANS - MOST VALUABLE PLAYER 1995”. The award is in MINT condition and is accompanied by a LOA from Orel Hershiser.
