Tyrus Raymond "Ty" Cobb, nicknamed "The Georgia Peach," spent 22 seasons with the Detroit Tigers, the last six as the team's player-manager. In 1936, Cobb received the most votes of any player on the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame ballot, receiving 222 out of a possible 226 votes. He is widely credited with setting 90 Major League Baseball records during his career and still holds several records as of 2012, including the highest career batting average (.367) and most career batting titles with 11. He still holds the career record for stealing home (54 times). Cobb himself wrote shortly before his death, "In legend I am a sadistic, slashing, swashbuckling despot who waged war in the guise of sport”. This recent history of this bat is that of a fairy tale, being found hidden inside a wall of a home in upstate New York, a “buried treasure” that is now offered here. Manuf: H&B. Model: His Cobb. Labeling Period: 1916-18. Length: 34.5”, Weight: 36.5 oz. Wood: Ash. Condition: Slight handle crack that has been professionally repaired. Many ball marks and ball stitch impressions are visible in all sides of the barrel. Cleat impressions, a classic Cobb characteristic, can also be seen on all sides of the barrel. A dark residue (tobacco juice) can also be seen on the front and left barrel as well as in the area of the barrel brand bearing Ty Cobb’s facsimile signature. A definite lathe mark is on the bottom of the knob. Overall: Outstanding use. Accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA graded a GU9.5. Magnificent and historic, a true Cobb gamer from almost a century ago.
