Considered one of the National League's top catchers during the 1950s and early 1960s, Del Crandall led the league in assists a record-tying six times, in fielding percentage four times and in putouts three times. He was an eleven time All-Star and four time Gold Glove Award winner. Our consignor received this jersey directly from the Braves as they were the sponsor of his youth baseball team. He has had the jersey ever since. On the left front tail is the “Horace Partridge” manufacturer’s tag. Attached is the size “44” label. Below are two white felt strip tags with player name “Crandell” (misspelled) and the jersey year “53” all embroidered in red chain stitch. Across the front is “Braves”. Player number “1” appears on both the front and back. All these numbers and letters are done in red on black felt. On front is the team “hatchet” embroidered in red and gold chain stitch on black and tan felt. On the left sleeve is the vibrant team “Headdress” patch beautifully embroidered in multi-colored chain stitch and felt. The zipper front is intact and fully functional. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows excellent use. Magnificent, all original condition.
