During a 20-year career, Tom Seaver compiled 311 wins, 3,640 strikeouts, 61 shutouts and a 2.86 ERA. In 1992, he was inducted into the Hall of Fame by the highest percentage ever recorded (98.84%). We were told by our consignor that this glove was worn by Tom Seaver on April 5, 1983 which was the Mets home opener at Shea Stadium. Seaver pitched six scoreless innings during the Mets 2-0 victory which was also Seaver’s last opening day start as a member of the Mets. He also tied Walter Johnson's major league record of 14 Opening Day starts that day. Tom Terrific made two more such starts with the Chicago White Sox in 1985 and 1986 for a record total of 16 opening day assignments. “Spalding” manufactured glove featuring an E-Z Flex pocket, pro heel, wing tip convertible back and deer skin interior. Signed on the rear fingers by Seaver in black marker rating a 7-8. The glove was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion, shows excellent use. Accompanied by a letter of provenance from our consignor who was Seaver’s book producer which states this glove was sent to him after he attended opening day that season. Further accompanied by a LOA from Denny Esken of PSA/DNA as well as a LOA from JSA.
