This OAL MacPhail baseball is undoubtedly one of a kind and to a Yankee fan, is priceless. It’s safe to say that while managing the NY Yankees, Billy Martin had his share of run-ins with Umpires…and Billy was not shy. This baseball has been signed by Martin on the south panel in blue ink rating a 7-8. However, the inscription on the sweet spot reads “To Tom Fuck You & Your Pal (Durwood) Kiss My Dago Ass”, also in blue ink rating a 7-8. The ball is accompanied by a letter from Durwood Merrill, former MLB Umpire which states, in part, “this baseball was inscribed by Billy Martin after I ejected him from a game in NY. Since he could not come back on the field after being ejected, he chose to write what he felt on the baseball and sent it out via the bat boy out to the crew that day…it has been a part of my collection for 20 years”. The ball is toned, EX- overall. Further accompanied by a LOA from JSA as well as an additional LOA.
