After winning his fourth green jacket at Augusta in 2005, Tiger Woods was in the hunt for his fifth going into the final day of the 2006 Masters. After three rounds, Woods was tied for 4th place but was only two shots behind leader Phil Mickelson. Many anticipated another showdown between golf’s two biggest stars but it never came to fruition. It was an emotional time for Tiger as his father and mentor, Earl Woods, was watching the tournament from home with his health in decline. Tiger later said that he took too many chances on the back nine and tried too hard to force it. “I know he was at home watching, and just really wanted to have him be a part of one last major championship victory.” Despite his best efforts, Tiger finished third and Earl Woods succumbed to cancer three weeks later. Two months later at the 2006 British Open, Tiger won his 11th major and as he said, “bawled like a baby” on the 18th green, his first major victory without Earl. This iconic “Sunday Red” polo shirt was donned by Woods on April 9, 2006, the final day of the 70th Masters Tournament. The white Nike "swoosh" appears on the left chest, and embroidered at the rear collar is the integrated "TW" emblem that designates Woods' own brand. The left sleeve carries a sewn-on metallic strip that also exhibits the "TW" symbol. Inside the collar is a "Tiger Woods" label with the accompanying size “M” flag tag below. Tiger has signed the front in black marker rating a near perfect 10. Below is “1/1” as well as the UDA hologram numbered “BAK 08962”. The shirt is properly tagged, was presented to us as tournament worn, and in our opinion, shows appropriate use. Accompanied by a COA from UDA stating that Tiger wore this “coral” polo during the 2006 Masters. Further accompanied by a LOA from JSA, backed by a LOA from PSA/DNA. To our knowledge, this is the only final day "red shirt" from any tournament—let alone the fabled Masters—that has ever been offered publicly. And it is further enhanced by the tremendous Woods signature and ironclad UDA provenance. There are two accompanying color 8" x 10" photos of Tiger Woods in this light red shirt and the green Masters jacket along with Phil Mickelson, also in his green Masters jacket.
