The Drake Relays refer to an annual outdoor track and field event held at Drake University in Des Moines. It has grown to become one of the largest and most important meets in United States, attracting top university and professional talent alike. Jesse Owens is a member of the Drake Relays Hall of Fame for the Broad Jump event as well as the 100-yard dash. 10” diameter black wooden base featuring a 4.5” diameter brass medal casted in the image of a runner and “DRAKE RELAY” in relief. Below is a 3-1/2” x 1-1/4” plaque engraved to read “1935 CHAMPIONSHIP - BROAD JUMP”. The award is accompanied by a letter from a member of Owens’ family which states that the award has been in the family’s possession for over 40 years.
