This size 10 salesman’s sample ring weighs 23 grams. The face of the ring reads “1984 EDMONTON OILERS” surrounding a blue synthetic face with a synthetic round-cut diamond in the center. The right panel is engraved with the player name and number, “GRETZKY 99” above the Oilers team logo and a carrot with a bite taken out of it. The story goes that Edmonton’s coach and general manager, Glen Sather, dangled a carrot in the Oilers’ locker room to represent the Stanley Cup. The carrot stayed for months, getting uglier and more dried up by the day. When the Oilers won the Cup the players asked that a carrot be incorporated into the ring’s design — with one bite taken out of it. The left panel reads “STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS” above a casted image of the Cup, “NHL”, and two banners engraved with “WINNIPEG 3-0 CALGARY 4-3” and “MINNESOTA 4-0 ISLANDERS 4-1”. The inside of the ring has no stamp and the ring is in NRMT condition.
