Circular brass plaque presented to “Pistol” Pete Maravich after he was selected as the Louisiana College Player of the Year in 1969. The award measures 17-1/2” across and roughly 1/2” thick. The plaque weighs 17.5 lbs. and it is in NRMT condition. The award reads “THE JAMES J. CORBETT MEMORIAL AWARD - NEW ORLEANS MID-WINTER SPORTS ASS’N.” in relief along the perimeter. At the top is the casted image of the award’s namesake, James J. Corbett above a banner that reads “It is nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice.” The center of the plaque reads “PETE MARAVICH - LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY - LOUISIANA’S OUTSTANDING COLLEGE ATHLETE FOR THE YEAR 1969” in relief above the casted image of LSU’s Tiger Stadium. The verso of the award features a blue-green patina in some spots. The plaque is in NRMT condition and is accompanied by a LOA from former LSU coach, Dale Brown.
