In an interview, Muhammad Ali (Cassius Clay), stated that his two biggest influences in boxing were Sugar Ray Robinson and Joe Louis. Nicknamed the Brown Bomber, Louis helped elevate boxing by establishing a reputation as an honest, hardworking fighter. His championship reign lasted 140 consecutive months, during which he participated in 26 championship fights. Cassius Clay, at the age of 22 won the world heavyweight championship from Sonny Liston and eventually became known as “The Greatest”, bringing beauty and grace to the most uncompromising of sports and through the wonderful excesses of skill and character. He was at one time, the most famous athlete in the world. Two iconic sports and pop culture figures, each adding their John Hancock to a boxing glove. Pair of “ALL STAR” manufactured tan boxing gloves, the left glove signed “From Cassius Clay Dec-19-63” in blue ink rating a 7-8 and “Good Luck Joe Louis” in blue ink rating an 8. There is a slight tear at the center of the “J” in “Joe”. The gloves show wear with some small holes throughout. Accompanied by a LOA from JSA. A rare and unique item to say the least.
