These gloves were originally sourced from pro boxer promoter Leo Richardson. They were worn by Sugar Ray Leonard in his eighth professional fight in which he fought Art McKnight at the Hara Arena, Dayton, Ohio on March 1, 1978; Leonard won the fight by TKO in the 7th round. Richardson's sons were in charge of the gloves for all of the fights that night, the gloves originate from his collection. “TUF-WEAR” manufactured black leather gloves, the original laces are no longer present. The number “8” has been stamped on the inside of each of the gloves. The gloves are properly tagged, were presented to us as fight-worn and in our opinion show appropriate use. Included with the gloves are two color photos from the fight, Leo Richardson’s “Golden Gloves of America” name badge, a 8-1/2” x 14” fight poster for the 3/1/1978 bout, a copy of the a contract between Richardson and Leonard for the McKnight fight, Richardson’s 1993 Ohio identification card, Richardson’s original amateur boxing ID card for the Middle Atlantic Association, as well as several news articles surrounding Richardson/Leonard.
