The AHRC Foundation was created by Thurman Munson’s widow, Diana Munson, to assist children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. She has helped raise over $10 million for the nonprofit group and also created “The Thurman Award” which is presented annually to individuals who exemplify success on their respective playing fields, and for their philanthropy and community service off the field. This brown, ceramic award was presented to boxer Larry Holmes in 1986 at the 7th Annual Thurman Munson Awards Dinner. Accompanying the award is a framed 8” x 10” black and white photo of Cardinal O’Connor presenting Larry Holmes with the Thurman Award. The trophy measures approximately 13” x 10” x 2” and weighs six lbs. It reads “THE THURMAN AWARD - ASSOCIATION FOR THE HELP OF RETARDED CHILDREN” surrounding the sculpted face of Thurman Munson, a football player, and a female tennis player. A plaque on the bottom has been engraved to read “LARRY HOLMES 1986”. The trophy is in NRMT condition.
