The most celebrated athlete of his generation, Babe Ruth's fame extends far beyond the game of baseball. Ruth exemplified the ultimate in sportsmanship and athleticism and was a hero of mythic proportions to youngsters and adults from all walks of life. He was among the first five players inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1936. OAL Harridge baseball signed on the west panel by Babe Ruth who added the inscription “To My Friend Sonny Donegan” in black fountain pen rating an 8-9. There has been a protective layer of shellac added to preserve the baseball. Two chips are visible in the shellac that go through the “d” in “Friend” and the “R” in “Ruth”. Accompanied by a detailed letter of provenance from our consignor whose father was Anthony Donegan, nicknamed "Sonny", and had the ball signed and inscribed to him personally by The Bambino.
