Nicknamed "Little Joe" for his diminutive 5'7" stature, Morgan was a standout at Castlemont High School before being signed by the Houston Colt .45's as an amateur free agent in 1962. Early in his career, he had trouble with his swing because he kept his back elbow down too low. Teammate Nellie Fox suggested to Joe that while at the plate he should flap his back arm like a chicken to keep his elbow up. Morgan followed the advice, and his flapping arm became a familiar sight to baseball fans. On the left front tail is the “Rawlings” manufacturer’s tag with jersey size “40”. Adjacent below is the wash instructions tag the “SET 1 1969” flag tag attached. Inside the rear collar is a grey felt strip tag with “40 18 69” embroidered in black chain stitching. Across the front is “HOUSTON” in navy felt on orange tackle twill. On the back is the player number “18” in navy felt on orange tackle twill. On the right shoulder is the Astrodome disc patch. On the left shoulder is the official MLB logo patch, the patch is original from 1969 and it has been restored. There is an autograph on the upper left chest in black marker, rates a 6 overall. The jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows excellent use. Accompanied by a full LOA from JSA.
