This 13" x 14" advertising broadside includes two teams from the “Black Fives” era of basketball that included the first all-black basketball teams starting in 1904. It reads “CARDINAL MACHINE - ..VS..” in black text and “THE INCORPORATORS - CHAMPIONS OF THE WORLD” in red text. A black and white team photo of each team is on either side of a portrait of Will Anthony Madden, the manager of the strictly amateur St. Christopher Club, who is responsible for creating the first all-black pay-for-play team. Under the photos reads “CHRISTMAS EVE FRIDAY, DEC. 24TH ‘15” in red text. It was held in G. A. R. Hall in Ohio. Ad is in VG condition.
