The New York Knicks were established in 1946 and was one of the founding members of the Basketball Association of America, which became the NBA after merging with the National Basketball League in 1949. During his career at New York University, Sid Tannenbaum was named winner of the Haggerty Award as the outstanding college player in the Metropolitan New York area in 1946 and 1947. Tannenbaum played for one full season for the Knicks in 1947-48, and was traded mid season during the 1948-49 season. He is a member of the New York City Hall of Fame. Inside the left side of the jersey is a “THORP” manufacturer’s tag. Attached are two flag tags that read “42” and “DRY CLEAN ONLY”. Across the front reads “NEW YORK”. Below and on the back is player number “6”. All lettering and numbering are done in orange tackle twill sewn directly onto the blue wool jersey. This jersey has had team repairs. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows outstanding use. This is the earliest example of a New York Knicks jersey that we have handled.
