This Mickey Mantle award was originally sourced directly from the Mantle family. In 1959, his ninth season in the majors, Mickey Mantle was selected as an All-Star for the eighth consecutive season. This personalized presentation knife set was given to Mantle as well as the other players who participated in the ‘59 Midsummer Classic. Each of the two green, hinged cases have been embossed in gold to read “ALL-STAR GAME - Los Angeles - Aug. 3 1959” and “MICKEY MANTLE - American League”. One case contains six stainless steel steak knives, the other contains a three-piece carving set of two stainless steel carving knives and a fork. The cases show some fading from sunlight, the knives appear to be unused. Accompanied by a Mantle Family LOA signed by Merlyn, David and Danny Mantle as well as paperwork from 2003’s Mickey Mantle Auction.
