The 1986 Mets were a confident team to say the very least. During spring training, manager Davey Johnson said to his players that they were not only going to win but that they would dominate. The Mets would win a team-record 108 games that season and go on to defeat the Boston Red Sox in the World Series including one of the most famous games in baseball history, “Game 6”. Vin Scully's call of the play would quickly become an iconic one to baseball fans, with the normally calm Scully growing increasingly excited, “…So the winning run is at second base, with two outs, three and two to Mookie Wilson. A little roller up along first... behind the bag! It gets through Buckner! Here comes Knight, and the Mets win it!!”. Chills, every time. “The Kid”, as he was known, was an integral part of that raucous bunch and the famous rally in Game 6. There was no designated captain for the 1986 Mets, but Gary Carter was the heart, soul and leader of the team. This trophy was presented to Gary Carter after he and his teammates defeated the Boston Red Sox in the 1986 World Series. The trophy stands nearly 12” tall with a black wooden base that measures roughly 7” x 7” x 2-½”. The trophy was manufactured by “Balfour” and weighs 6 lbs. The trophy features a gold crown atop a circular centerpiece with a silver baseball below surrounded by 26 gold flags, each with a team name enameled in black. The World Series press pins for both the Red Sox and the Mets are mounted on the base, each enameled in the teams respective colors. A brass band surrounding the base has been enameled to read, “WORLD SERIES CHAMPIONS - NEW YORK METS - 1986 - GARY CARTER”. A Balfour manufacturers sticker is present underneath the base. This is one of two trophies made up for Carter. The trophy is in NRMT condition and is accompanied by a LOA from the Gary Carter Foundation.
