In 2011 Justin Verlander was nearly unhittable, which resulted in the rare accomplishment of winning both the AL Cy Young Award and the AL MVP award. Verlander went 24-5 with an ERA of 2.40, striking out 250 batters. On the front left tail is a “Majestic” manufacturer’s tag with “JSG” written on it in black marker, which are the initials of Tigers Clubhouse Manager, Jim Schmakel. On the tag is MLB hologram sticker, “641741 FJ”, which indicates the jersey was worn on 7/10/2011 in a game against the Kansas City Royals. Below is a white mesh strip tag that reads “35 48 ‘10 223”. On the left seam is a “Majestic COOL BASE” tag. On the left inseam is a size “48 100% POLYESTER” tag with washing instructions. Across the chest reads “Detroit”. Player number “45” appears on both the front and on the back. Across the back reads player name “VERLANDER”. All numbering and lettering appears in the same navy blue on orange on white triple tackle twill sewn directly onto the grey mesh jersey. Above the player name is an official “MLB” logo embroidered with one star embroidered on either side of it. On the left sleeve is a “Majestic” logo embroidered and on the right sleeve is a “SPARKY 11” memorial patch for Sparky Anderson. Verlander received the win in a 2-1 victory, pitching 7.2 innings with nine strikeouts and an unearned run. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use.

It should be noted that the team added the two All-Star "stars" on either side of the MLB logo featured on the neck-line after it had been announced that Verlander was selected to the MLB All-Star team. We were told by our consignor that this shirt was purchased directly from the team that August.
