Willie McCovey was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1986 on the first ballot. The powerful lefty hit 521 home runs and led the National League in home runs in three seasons. He won one NL MVP award and his No. 44 is retired by the San Francisco Giants. 1972 is the first year the Giants wore knit jerseys. On the front left tail is a “1972” year tag. Below is a “McAULIFFE UNIFORM CORP.” manufacturer’s tag. Attached below is a size “L” tag and a size “44” tag. Inside below the rear collar is a strip tag with the player name, “McCovey” embroidered on it. Across the chest reads, “GIANTS”. Player number “44” appears on the back. These are done in the same black felt on orange tackle twill sewn directly onto the white knit jersey. McCovey signed the jersey inside the back right player number “4” in silver marker and in our opinion rates a 7 overall. The Giants started the year in 1972 wearing flannel uniforms and then switched to knits. This is a highly desirable style and a beautiful example. This jersey is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA.
