“Mr. Padre” Tony Gwynn was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007 on the first ballot. The 15-time All-Star won eight NL batting titles and has his No. 19 retired by the club. He had a .338 career batting average and never hit below .309 in any full season. On 9/8/1998, Gwynn hit a first inning home run off Kirk Reuter of the San Francisco Giants. It was his 13th home run of the season. On the front left tail is a “RUSSELL ATHLETIC” size “50” manufacturer’s tag with washing instructions. “9/8/98 - 2914 - HR” is written on the tag in pen. Attached is a “100% POLYESTER” flag tag. Across the chest reads, “PADRES” in navy blue on white on orange triple tackle twill. On the back is player number “19” in orange on white tackle twill. Above reads the player name, “GWYNN” in white tackle twill. Gwynn signed inside the back player number “1” in black pen and in our opinion rates an 8 overall. On the right sleeve is a “Russell Athletic” logo embroidered. On the left sleeve is a Padres team logo patch. Below the player number, “9-8-98 VS SF #2914 HR” is embroidered on the jersey in orange stitching. On the inside of the rear waistline of the paints is a “RUSSELL ATHLETIC” size “39” manufacturer’s tag with washing instructions. Attached is a flag tag that reads, “100% POLYESTER H-CUT”. Adjacent is a tag that reads, “19 39-41-30-98”. On this tag, “9/8/98 2914 HR” is written in pen. Gwynn signed adjacent in blue pen and in our opinion rates a 7 overall. Below the back pocket is a “Russell Athletic” logo embroidered. This uniform is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used and in our opinion shows appropriate use. Accompanied by an LOA from JSA and a Gwynn family LOA.
