Luke Appling was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1964. We were told by our consignor that the cap was originally sourced from the Appling family. Inside on the rear sweatband is a “SPALDING” manufacturer’s tag. Adjacent are remnants of the player name, “Appling” embroidered in blue stitching. The player number “12” is written on the underside of the brim, which is not Appling's number. On the front of the cap is the team’s “C” logo embroidered in red stitching. This cap is properly tagged, was presented to us as game-used by Luke Appling and in our opinion shows use.
