Manuf: H&B, Model: S79, Length: 35 in., Weight: 35.8 oz., Wood: Ash, Labeling Period: 1946-48, Condition: Uncracked. Appling’s player number “4” is written on the knob of this Taffy Wright bat in black marker. The model number “S79” has been stamped into the knob. Ball and hit marks are present on the right, left and back barrel. Green, blue and red rack marks are present on the front, left, right and back barrel as well as the handle. The is a light coat of pine tar on the mid-handle. The bat exhibits evidence of heavy use. Accompanied by a LOA from PSA/DNA. Further accompanied by a LOA from Ben Sumpter, grandson of Hall of Famer Luke Appling, that states, “This 1940s Taft Wright Louisville Slugger model bat has been used by my grandfather Luke Appling with his familiar number 4 marked on the knob in black marker and is from the collection of my Grandfather Luke Appling.” Appling and Wright were teammates on the Chicago White Sox (‘40-’42, ‘46-’48).
