Arnold Palmer turned professional in 1954. One of the greatest golfers in history, Palmer won the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award in 1998 and in 1974 was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame. He is fifth all-time in PGA Tour wins and has seven Major Championship titles. The Western Pennsylvania Amateur Championship started in 1899 and played all but two years, 1917-18, during World War I, and is one of the oldest regional championships in the country. On the bottom of the trophy is a “PAUL REVERE REPRODUCTION - INTERNATIONAL STERLING D261” stamp. Engraved on the sterling silver trophy reads, “WESTERN PENNSYLVANIA GOLF ASSOCIATION - 52ND ANNUAL AMATEUR CHAMPIONSHIP - 1952 - WINNER - ARNOLD PALMER”. The trophy is in NRMNT condition and weighs 1.5 pounds. This trophy was originally part of a Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame display in Three Rivers Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and was sourced from the stadiums operations manager.
