Timing for the Nets was good and bad in 1976-77. The team got its wish when it was among four ABA teams absorbed into the NBA, but when it began play that season the club's big star, Julius Erving, had split to play for the Philadelphia 76ers after leading the Nets to two ABA titles in three years. The Nets began their NBA life as the New York Nets, but they would play only one season on Long Island before moving to the New Jersey Meadowlands. They compiled a 22-60 record and finished last in the Atlantic Division. The game-used road jersey and shorts in this set were worn by Jim Fox, who was the team's starting center that season. The jersey has the red "Rawlings" label with the size "44." The jersey is blue with a red and white stripe running down the left center next to the words "New York" in white felt stitched over the white player number "40." On the back is the name "Fox" and number "40" stitched in white felt..The shorts have the "Rawlings" label and size "38." On the left side is a red, white and blue stripe pattern with two blue stars and there is red trim across the bottom. The snap-on warmup jacket has red and white stripes on the left center and the words "New York" in white felt stitched onto the back. The jersey and shorts show game-use and the warmup jacket wear, and there are no alterations of any kind on them.
