Other teams have a history. The Boston Celtics have a mystique. And a large part of that mystique is the venerated image of the Boston Garden. Opened in 1928, the Garden with its splintery parquet floor, dim lighting and airless atmosphere, may have been a chamber of horrors to Celtics opponents, but to fans of the Green it was the epitome of the phrase homecourt edge, a lion's den to take pride in. When the Celtics and NHL Bruins finally vacated the fabled building in 1995 for the Fleet Center, the rafters high above the Garden were adorned by scores of retired uniform numbers once worn by the Gods of the Garden, including Bill Russell, John Havlicek, Larry Bird and Bobby Orr, and the air was probably still filled with smoke from Red Auerbach's victory cigars. These two Boston Garden seats offered here are especially historic in that they were among the original seats installed in the arena in ‘28. They were preserved after being removed when the Garden was renovated years later. History has marked the seats with scratches and scrapes and rust on the metal hinges and floor base, making it almost possible to hear the cheers and catcalls from the rabid patrons who sat in these seats and saw so much glory unfold before them.
