Although Ernie Stautner was undersized by football standards at 6-foot-1 and 230 pounds, no one was ever a tougher customer in the trenches than the fist-faced Stautner, who first showed his competitive hunger as an All-American defensive lineman at Boston College from 1946-49, then during a 14-year Hall of Fame career with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Baltimore Colts lineman Jim Parker once said of Stautner, "The man's not human, he's too strong to be human," but when he was a BMOC at BC, Stautner looked refined and gentlemanly in this gorgeous maroon red wool letterman sweater. The sweater has a "W.H. Bruce" label in the neck, on the left breast is a gold interlocking "BC" logo and there are three gold stripes on the upper left sleeve. The sweater is still as royal in look and feel as it was half a century ago, and is in excellent condition.
