The Temptations were the first Motown recording act to win a Grammy Award - for "Cloud Nine" in 1969 and in 2013 the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences honored the group with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. The 15th Annual Grammy Awards were held on March 3, 1973 at the Tennessee Theater in Nashville. The Temptations took home three Grammys for their 1972 hit "Papa Was a Rollin' Stone"; Best R&B Song, Best R&B Vocal Performance by a Duo, Group or Chorus and Best R&B Instrumental Performance. Offered here is one the Grammys presented to the group for 1972’s Best R&B Instrumental Performance. Brass “Grammy” award standing 5-¼” tall, approximately 6-3/8” tall atop a wooden base measuring 4-¾” across. The award weighs 2.2 lbs. and is casted in the image of a gramophone and record. The wooden base features a plaque engraved to read “NATIONAL ACADEMY OF RECORDING ARTS & SCIENCES - THE TEMPTATIONS - BEST RHYTHM & BLUES INSTRUMENTAL - 1972 - “PAPA WAS A ROLLING STONE” SINGLE”. The bottom of the award features a sticker that reads “CONGRATULATIONS GRAMMY WINNER! Your ENGRAVED PLATE will be mailed to you with instructions for mounting.” “14-12” is written in black marker. The iconic award is in MINT condition.
